NEWS RELEASE
DOWNTOWN BARRIE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

We’re digging downtown and so are its businesses! With the Dunlop Streetscape construction underway, many of the businesses have embraced the project and have put together some really creative ways of staying connected to their customers.

Some are offering a delivery service and are using social media to keep their customers in an as-it-happens status. A few restaurants have even created VIP construction seating for their dining guests.

Downtown Barrie is certainly open for business, so come on down, support our local businesses and check out all the excitement!

Now in Phase 1A (Dunlop Street between Poyntz Street and Owen Street), the project has maintained its focus on completing construction at the Dunlop Street and Mulcaster Street intersection as quickly and safely as possible while also continuing construction down the street.

Upon completion, downtown Barrie will have an improved pedestrian experience and be fully accessible while providing downtown businesses with more attractive and safe storefront areas. It will also introduce green infrastructure to reduce road pollutants while providing fertile environments for the street trees.

Phase 1A of the project will come to a hard stop on Nov. 8 in time for the Remembrance Day Ceremony and the Christmas shopping season. Construction will resume for Phase 1B (Dunlop St between Owen St and the Five Points intersection) as early as conditions will allow in 2020. Phase 2 (Dunlop St between the Five Points intersection and Toronto St) will continue in 2020 with completion aimed for fall of 2020.

Disruption to parking has been offset with the fourth floor of the Collier Street Parkade devoted to 2 hours of free parking for the duration of Phase 1A (until Nov. 8). Come downtown and support our amazing local businesses during construction. #WeDigDunlop and we know you do too!
