SOUTHERN GEORGIAN BAY – The Safe and Sober Awareness committee has partnered with the local Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) stores to bring forth an important driving safety message to the public about texting and drinking while driving.

The message is “DON’T YOU DARE, BE AWARE” for drivers who may be texting or drinking while driving their vehicles over the upcoming Easter long weekend.

Texting and drinking are the most often seen factors in motor vehicle collisions that cause fatalities and serious injuries.

To help prepare for this upcoming campaign, LCBO stores in Lafontaine, Midland, Penetanguishene, Port McNicoll, and Victoria Harbour have provided over 3000 product bags.

Committee members as well as area secondary school students applied the message stickers on these bags.

These bags will be handed out to LCBO store customers during the upcoming Easter long weekend.

The Safe and Sober Awareness Committee is comprised of OPP, Midland Police, Anishinabek Police, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Ministry of Transportation and several area business people.

The committee raises awareness and educates our communities to prevent drinking and texting while driving/riding on land, water and trails during all seasons.

The S&SAC has been in existence since 1995 and meets monthly in Midland Ontario.
