Don't set off fireworks near gasoline, and other helpful Canada Day tips from police

This long weekend Canadians will be celebrating Canada Day. As tradition fireworks displays will be taking place across many cities and townships, and keeping safety in mind these displays are overseen by fire services.

We encourage everyone to enjoy these shows, although if you plan on hosting your own fireworks display there are a few Barrie By-Laws to keep in mind.

Anyone contravening Barrie By-Laws can be issued a fine from police, By-Law personal and/or Barrie Fire.

Please refrain from:

  • Setting off fireworks on public highway/ public park. Fine $240.
     
  • Ignite fireworks within 300 meters of hospital/nursing home/health lodge/school/church –When not authorized. Fine $240.
     
  • Setting off fireworks within 8 meters of building/tent/trailer/camp/shelter/motor vehicle. Fine $240.
     
  • Setting of fireworks within 300 meters of explosive/gasoline or other flammable substances. Fine $490.
     
  • Setting of fireworks – creating danger. Fine $365.
