Donnie, the stray cat who was found in the McDonald's parking lot in Bradford, has finally been adopted.

Last summer, three women found the cat eating stale fries out of a paper bag and spent hours rescuing the feline

After being checked out by the vet, it was determined Donnie was blind in one eye, had many rotted teeth, and was suffering from a respiratory infection. He was also deemed feral and FIV positive.

The women fundraised to have Donnie's vet bills paid for and he was eventually surrendered to Feline Fix animal shelter in Barrie.

After months of rehabilitation and socialization with foster mom Carol Doucette, he was ready for adoption in January.

She has two cats of her own who she says taught Donnie how to "just be a cat."

"It was a great experience to be able to be a part of Donnie's rehabilitation," Doucette said. "Becoming a foster mom has been the best experience and will continue to help out kitties for as long as I can."

The other day, Feline Fix announced on their Facebook page that the cat has been adopted, finding his forever home.

"Donnie is in kitty heaven," the post read.

He has been adopted by a family of three, who also have three other cats.

"Donnie responded to gentleness and love and in our second foster home, had lots of time to blossom into the beautiful boy he is now. He won't have any more difficult, fearful times in his future," read the post.

New owners are brother and sister Bradley Swackhammer and Ashley Henderson, along with their friend Andrew Patterson. Each have their own cat already and thought Donnie would be a great addition to the mix.

They had been reading about Donnie in the news and thought he would be the "perfect fit" noted Swackhammer. He says Donnie is already acting like the boss of the house, "with no fears."

All the cats are getting along nicely, kissing and snuggling with each other.
