Barrie Police Officers observed a vehicle drive straight through a red light and upon attempting to stop it, the driver refused to pull over.

On Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2016 at 11:50 p.m. a vehicle turned from Hart Drive to Dunlop Street West then on Anne Street South making no attempts to stop at the red light.

Officers were able to observe the driver before making a U-turn to pull the vehicle over for the infraction. The suspect vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed and was observed running another red light.

The police did not pursue the vehicle due to the danger to the public, but could see the vehicle continued to drive dangerously speeding through multiple intersections heading southbound on Essa Road.

Investigation revealed the vehicle was registered to a rental company from the GTA.

A short time later a concerned citizen called in an abandoned vehicle and suspicious male on Allsop Street, in the City of Barrie.

Police located the suspect vehicle abandoned and immediately deployed the K9 Unit to track into the wooded area the male was last seen retreating to. The male was located in a backyard of a residence off Mapleton Avenue.

The 31-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested and charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

A quantity of suspected cocaine was also seized and the male was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Investigation revealed the male was also Disqualified Drive for previous charges of Dangerous Driving and Flight from Police. The charge of Operation while Disqualified was also added.

He was held at the Barrie Police Service pending a bail hearing in the morning.
