I am pleased to report that Steve Clark, Minister for Municipal Affairs and Housing has activated the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program for eligible residents in Barrie.

The DRAO program helps people with essential costs that are not covered by insurance. I encourage residents to contact their insurance company first. We’ll continue working in partnership with the city to help affected families and businesses get back on their feet.

The disaster assistance program applies to a primary residence and its basic contents, or to a small business, farm or not-for-profit organization. It provides assistance for emergency expenses and the costs to repair or replace essential property following a natural disaster not covered by insurance.

I want to thank all of the amazing people in Barrie who have shown so much love, support and solidarity as we rebuild after this unexpected disaster.
