Digging Barrie Central's history

Buried treasure retrieved for upcoming reunion

Students and teachers past and present were on hand Tuesday to dig out a time capsule from the front brick wall of Barrie Central Collegiate.

The 43-year old copper-covered box had been placed behind a concrete cornerstone dated 1973 during the last renovation of the school which is closing in June.

The time capsule will be opened as part of the downtown high school's reunion celebrations May 26 to 29.

The capsule's contents, listed with labels on the outside, include coins, stamps and a school crest.

Leading up to the reunion, Barrie Central Music will perform a final concert on May 11 titled Spring Rhapsody 2016.

The free concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. will be held in the W.A. Fisher Auditorium.
