Crime Stoppers celebrates 30th anniversary

Crime Stoppers of Simcoe Dufferin Muskoka has a lot to celebrate.

January is Crime Stoppers Month, 2017 is the chapter's 30th anniversary and the program is also trumpeting another successful year of crime fighting in 2016.

More than 1,800 tips in 2016 helped lead to 183 arrests, 397 charges, recovery of 17 weapons and 283 cases cleared.

The program also received 2,564 follow-up tips from the public in a combination of calls to the tip line, web tips and mobile text tips. 

Anonymous tip information from the community also helped police recover just over of $1.15 million worth property and illicit drugs. 

More than $22,000 in reward payments to tipsters was approved in 2016.  

Crime Stoppers Simcoe Dufferin Muskoka continues to use social media to share information such as crimes, suspects and missing or wanted persons with the public quickly.
