9:08 a.m. original story:

A 45-year old Barrie man is scheduled to make his first court appearance in connection with a double murder.

Barrie Police Const. Nicole Rodgers said the man faces four charges: two counts of first degree murder, one count of committing an indignity to a dead body and another charge of flight from police.

Barrie Police discovered the bodies of two men inside a home on Eden Drive in the early hours of Tuesday morning after a bizarre series of events.

It began around 2 a.m. Tuesday when an OPP officer spotted a pickup truck parked on the side of Highway 26 in Springwater Township with its 4-way flashers activated.

The officer approached the car but after a short conversation the driver sped off.

There was a pursuit which was called off due to safety reasons and the truck was later found abandoned on a side street in Barrie.

In the meantime, Barrie Police had gone to the home of the truck's registered owner after the OPP officer managed to get the license plate.

The registered owner of the truck lived at the home on Eden Drive with the two murdered men, police said.

A man was taken into custody in Shanty Bay around 5 a.m. Tuesday after OPP were called about a suspicious male walking down the street.

The man was identified as the same person involved in the pursuit.

Police said the bodies could have been in the home for up to 4 or 5 days.

Forensic teams will continue to scour the home for evidence for a couple of days.

Autopsies will be performed to determine how the two men died.

Their names have not been released.
