May 22 to 28 is National Paramedic Services Week, a time to reflect on the dedication and resilience of these exceptional first responders serving our communities.

This year’s theme, Faces of Paramedicine, will focus on the diverse and growing range of specialties within the profession.

In addition to responding to approximately 80,000 calls annually, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services is evolving its programs and services to meet the needs of our growing communities, aging population, and increased demands. Advancements include investments into strategically located facilities in Springwater, Bradford, Barrie, and Wasaga Beach. The county continues to invest in modern equipment and medical initiatives, including the procurement of power lift-assist devices, increased community paramedicine coverage, and medical devices.

Understanding their role as community mentors, County of Simcoe paramedics have also continued to provide support to the community through volunteer-based opportunities including the annual Toy Drive, community education through public relations programming at camps, schools and events, along with the United Way Simcoe Muskoka drives and epaulette programs.

“During my time as warden and as a county councillor, I have had the opportunity to speak with many paramedics and celebrate milestones and various announcements,” said Warden George Cornell. “The one thing that always strikes me is the passion our paramedics have to serve our communities and residents. After all the changes and challenges the past two years have presented, their commitment, compassion and resilience are truly inspiring.”

Throughout the week of May 22 to 28, the county will utilize social media to showcase the many specialties that exist within paramedicine, including community paramedics, logistics, fleet, educators and Incident Response Unit members who play a pivotal role in responding to major emergencies.

Paramedic for a Day (May 24, 9 a.m.)

County of Simcoe Paramedic Services will also recognize the Paramedic for a Day contest winner, whose video submission will have best demonstrated what to do when the first responder is you.
