Simcoe County will spend almost $1.5 million this year and almost $1.7 million in 2017 to help community agencies help keep families warm and fed.
In an update, the county’s social policy and planning manager Doriano Calvano outlined the on-the-ground services – and people – who help those who are homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless.
“These programs and services are essential components of Simcoe County’s homelessness service sector and deliver a range of supports to individuals and families,” he said.
New in 2017, the county will assist the Salvation Army – Orillia with a new street outreach once a week, at a cost of $15,000.
The 2016 funding breaks down as follows:
- Salvation Army, Barrie: caseworker, $40,600
- Salvation Army, Barrie: community meals program, $84,864
- Elizabeth Fry Society: trustee, to help 16 and 17-year-olds, $27,687
- Georgian Triangle Residential Resource Centre – South Georgian Bay: $114,588
