Countdown to the Countdown

Barrie’s Downtown Countdown starts at 6 p.m. with kid-friendly activities at City Hall. Along with live shows on stage, there will be roaming performers featuring fire, magic, and juggling and other talents.

Road closures are in place for Downtown Countdown celebrations.

The following road closures will be in effect as the city prepares for Downtown Countdown 2016:

  • Collier Street from Owen Street to Mulcaster Street - 6am December 30 to noon January 1
  • Collier Street from Mulcaster Street to Berczy Street - 4pm December 31 to 2am January 1
  • Mulcaster Street from Dunlop Street to Worsley Street - 4pm December 31 to 2am January 1

Along with live shows on stage, there will be roaming performers featuring fire, magic, and juggling.

Activities include:

  • Skating on the Circle at the Centre rink - bring your skates!
  • Horse-drawn wagon rides
  • Snow Valley's mini tube slide
  • Roaming performers featuring fire, magic, and juggling
  • Family fun: Clarabella the Clown, face painting, balloon animals, and more
  • Bonfire warming zone
  • Food vendors
  • Fireworks: 7:45pm and midnight

On Stage:

  • 7:00pm - Judy & David
  • 7:45pm - Fireworks
  • 8:15pm - Dead Mechanics
  • 9:15pm - Sun K
  • 10:30pm - The Sheepdogs
  • Midnight - Fireworks

For anyone needing a safe ride home, Barrie Transit will operate for free from 5 p.m. Dec. 31 to 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2016.
