One person was seriously injured in a workplace incident north of Barrie, Monday morning.

Oro-Medonte Township Fire Chief Hugh Murray said emergency responders were called to a construction site near Line 8 on Jan. 23.

"We were called to an accident on a construction site where a worker was hit by a piece of equipment and was unconscious," Murray said in a statement.

After being transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, paramedics called for an air ambulance, Murray said.

"We arrived (on) scene and assisted paramedics. (The) patient was transported to Orillia where paramedics had called for air ambulance," he said.

Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface said the issue has been referred to the Ministry of Labour for investigation.

"We attended for a workplace accident at that location. The matter has now been referred to the Ministry of Labour, who are going to continue their investigation," he said.

"Because it's still under investigation by another agency, I can't comment on what happened," Boniface added.
