Congratulations to Barrie's new Firefighters!

Proud families, the Mayor and Fire Service brass gather for the ceremony

Barrie's Fire and Emergency Service has welcomed eight new recruits.

Mayor Jeff Lehman was among the dignitaries to address the new recruits and their proud families at the 2015 graduation ceremony Friday at Fire Service Headquarters.

Fire Chief John Lynn told the recruits that this day brings a new chapter in their lives.

"You are the future of this department,"said Lynn who is retiring at the end of this month.

The taking of the B.F.E.S. Oath was lead by Lynn who also presented the new recruits with their hats.

Ironically, firefighters were called out twice during the ceremony after the alarms sounded in the building.

Deputy Chief Bill Boyes, Deputy Chief Jeff Weber and Deputy Chief Sue Dawson were also on hand and participated in the ceremony, presenting the new recruits with their badges and helmets.

The new firefighters start their first shift next week.
