Come with toys and get the inside scoop from Santa (5 photos)

Hurry to Park Place for a tree lighting ceremony today

Park Place is into the Christmas spirit today as they have their official tree lighting this evening.

Santa Claus and one of his reindeer were on hand as festive music played and treats were handed out by local eateries. Areti Aloumanis is the General Manager of Park Place and says the new shopping area is really catching on with residents and visitors alike.

"The response we've been getting is fantastic," said Aloumanis. "We have a fireplace right in the centre of everything so it's already a great meeting place; mix in the holiday feel and it's magical."

The David Busby Centre is on-hand collecting clothes and food while radio stations ROCK 95 and 107.5 KOOL FM are looking for toy donations for their annual Toy Drive.

After the kids are done getting their faces painted they can go see the Big Guy about what they want for Christmas. Santa says Barbie is still popular as are the new Squishies that are all the rage. And if you're worried about Christmas morning, have no fear; Santa says that the city is in pretty good shape.

"Ho ho ho, Barrie is one of my favourite places to come to, so far you're all on the Nice List."

The tree will be lit at approximately 5:15 p.m.
