Come for the hockey. Stay for the school spirit (16 photos)

Barrie Christmas Cheer was the real winner of the 4th annual Kempenfelt Cup

The 4th annual Kempenfelt Cup was a loud and boisterous five and a half hours of hockey that would see the Eastview Wildcats take top honours in both boys and girls championships.

High school students from all over the Simcoe County District School Board were on hand to watch their school vie for the coveted K-Cup in boys and girls hockey as well as relay races and a sledge hockey game. Mike Abram is one of the organizers for the event as well as the principal for Bear Creek Secondary School and says that while it's a huge event to plan, everyone has a great time.

"We've got about 2,500 kids here today watching the great hockey action," said Abram. "Each school was given a colour and got their t-shirts made up according to that; so Innisdale got orange, Bear Creek got red, blue is Eastview and so on. Each student had to buy a ticket and that ticket got you the shirt and entry to the BMC, then what we have is designated seating for each school so its pretty cool to see wave of different colours throughout the day."

The day wasn't just about hockey though as the real winner was Barrie Christmas Cheer as all proceeds from the day went to support the charitable organization.
