Combat challenge goes to the Simcoe County Home Builders' Association

The family fun continues at the Build and Burn Day until 3 p.m. at 10 Saunders Road in Barrie.

Members of the Simcoe County Home Builders' Association took a break from building a house on Saturday, to defeat Barrie firefighters in a combat challenge.

The obstacle course included crawling through a sewer pipe, dragging a "victim" to safety and using a fire hose to hit a target.

While firefighters completed the course in an impressive time of 6 minutes and 32 seconds; the home builders, wearing 50-pounds of firefighting gear on their backs, finished in 6 minutes and 15 seconds - champions by 17 seconds.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) & the Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association (SCHBA) are hosting a day of free family fun as they team up to build a house today in six hours.

The 750 sq. ft. bungalow will be used for firefighter training by Barrie Fire and Emergency Service, Innisfil Fire and Rescue Service and Georgian College’s pre-service firefighting program, as well as public education and life safety initiatives.

Once completed, the first fire training session is scheduled for 3 p.m.
