Collision after running red light leads to impaired charge

Barrie Police attended the intersection of St. Vincent Street and Livingstone Street East in the City of Barrie for a collision, but soon determined the driver at fault was impaired.

On Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at 9:40 p.m. the accused was travelling eastbound on Livingstone Street East when he ran a red light through the intersection at St. Vincent. Another vehicle who was following the rules of the road and had the green light was struck.

Witnesses on scene observed the male clearing bottles from his vehicle before police arrived. Once on scene officers were able to determine the male had been drinking.

He was arrested and transported to the Barrie Police Service for further testing where he failed both breath samples.  

A 24-year-old Barrie male was charges with Impaired Driving and Blood Alcohol Over 80mgs. He was released with a future court date in December.

There were no serious injuries reported to police in regards to the collision.
