Colin James rocks the CP Holiday Train

Event marks launch of Christmas Holiday Food Drive

The 19th annual CP Holiday Train rolled into Midhurst Wednesday and was welcomed by several thousand excited spectators.

Canadian rocker Colin James and singer Emma-Lee entertained the crowd with some rocking Christmas Carol classics.

CP Rail presented the Barrie and Elmvale Food Banks with a cheque for $5,000 while food and cash donations were being accepted on site.

The event marked the launch of the Barrie Food Bank's Christmas Holiday Food Drive.

"We have a goal of 180 thousand pounds of food in the month of December.  This is just a great opportunity to kick it off with lots of families, lots of kids, Santa," said Peter Sundborg, executive director of the Barrie Food Bank

"The Food Bank will probably raise about 3,000 pounds of food as well as dollars," he added.

The CP Holiday Train collects food and money for both organizations while helping raise awareness in the fight against hunger.
