Cold Creek County gathered a new heap of fans when they last appeared in Barrie during 2016’s Kempenfest. The band has undergone a few changes since, with Dalmeny, Sask. product Ches Anthony taking over as lead singer, making the Brighton, Ontario-based ensemble a six-piece band, with vocalist-banjo picker Jordan Hansinger promoted from touring musician to full-time member.

The two - along with guitarists Josh Lester and Trevor MacLeod, bassist Justin Lester and drummer Doug Oliver -- return to Barrie this Saturday to play Mavricks Music Hall, and the boys tell BarrieToday the band is constantly evolving, from their song writing to the look of their live show.

“We put a lot of work in to make sure to keep moving in a forward motion. We like to try different things here and there to find out what is the best at that time, and we run with that.”

They’ve played with Canadian country stalwarts Dallas Smith, Emerson Drive and Jason Blaine, but, more recently, with The Washboard Union and Old Dominion, which the boys call “an absolute blast."

“Old Dominion’s camp was very professional, and watching what those guys do on and off the stage was something we try to implement in our own business. (Washboard Union) are like family to us. It was a lot of fun to hang out and kill some time on our days off. Just hanging and writing and making some great memories.”

Cold Creek County is making some noise with the latest album, Homemade, released last summer and which produced the current single, This Town is You.

“Our friend Erik Dylan wrote this track and sent it up from Nashville to have a listen. We connected with it and thought the fans should hear this one. So we pulled the trigger.”

In the intervening months since CCC last dropped anchor here, Mavricks has become something of a country concert hub; one about the band is something of a blank slate.

“We have not played Mavricks yet, but by the buzz from social media, it has us very excited to come and hang out with everyone and put on the best show we can for our fans.”

Cold Creek County, with opening act The Mudslingers, takes over Mavricks Music Hall, 46 Dunlop Street West, Saturday night, February 24. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the show starting at 9. For more, just click here.
