The following is a statement from Canadian Coat Guard spokesperson Carol Launderville regarding the partially submerged sailboat in Lake Simcoe:

The Canadian Coast Guard is working to ensure pollution from a partially submerged sailboat on southern Lake Simcoe is contained.

The Coast Guard's Environmental Response program deployed a floating barrier, called boom, around the 12-metre, double-masted white sailboat today (Sunday Sept. 11).

The boat, anchored in Cook's Bay, is in approximately two metres of water.

No one was aboard the vessel according to police.

The Coast Guard has also issued a safety notice to shipping advising boaters of the sunken vessel, as the sailboat is a hazard to navigation.

The Coast Guard is working closely South Simcoe and York Regional Police, and Transport Canada on this matter.
