Barrie's cannabis consumers will have to find somewhere else to procure their stock after the city's only provincially licensed marijuana retailer, One Plant, made the decision to shut down over coronavirus concerns.
Signs posted on the Essa Road shop's doors say: "We have temporarily shut down due to current circumstances regarding COVID-19. Thank you for your understanding."
There was no timeline provided for when the shop could reopen.
Media reports have suggested an employee came into contact with someone who had tested positive for the virus.
Attempts by BarrieToday seeking comment and clarification from One Plant management have not been returned.
One Plant, which is located in the plaza at 231 Essa Rd., is Barrie's first government-approved cannabis retailer. It initially opened for business on Jan. 17.
Barrie has had one confirmed fatality related to COVID-19. A 77-year-old man died at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) on March 11 after approximately 20 hours in hospital.
That case was linked to an Alberta man in his 70s who stayed at the Hampton Inn on Bryne Drive from March 5-11, and who tested positive for the virus.
The Alberta man, who was hospitalized March 11, reportedly had close contact with the other man who died.
