The City of Barrie is looking for feedback on the preferred approach to maintaining the North Shore Trail.

City staff will present maintenance options for the North Shore Trail at a virtual meeting on May 18 at 7 p.m. and invite feedback. Participants must register in advance by visiting In addition, an online survey will be open until June 3 to collect public feedback.

The original North Shore Trail Vegetation Management Plan was created in 2011. Staff now have a draft update that, once approved, will be used to implement vegetation maintenance work along the trail system.

Key considerations for the updates include:

  • Implement a maintenance plan to create vigorous long-term tree coverage
  • Invasive species management (garlic mustard, phragmites, dog-strangling vine, sumac, etc.)
  • Create views to the waterfront for those who use the trail
  • Encourage plant growth to support pollinator and bird habitats
  • Create educational and interpretive signage
