The City of Barrie has received approval from the province to jack up its parking fines.

The set fine for a parking violation in applicable waterfront parking areas is $100, or $75 for early payment.

Barrie residents require a resident parking pass to park for free at specific waterfront areas. Non-residents are charged $10 an hour with a daily max of $50.

In an effort to combat overcrowding at the Barrie waterfront, councillors recently hiked the city's waterfront parking rates from $3 to $10 hourly and from $20 to $50 for a maximum daily fee.

Paid parking is enforced 24 hours a day.
