The changing of the guard at the top of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service is expected to take place this week.

Scott LaMantia, Senior Communications Advisor for the City of Barrie, confirms the announcment regarding Barrrie's new Fire Chief is "anticipated" tomorrow morning.

The title now is Director of Emergency Services.

The current Chief John Lynn is scheduled to retire at the end of December but the city intended to have the new Director in place before Lynn left to ease the transition.

Chief Lynn joined the city of Barrie fire service 31 years ago and became chief in 2006.

He is hanging up his gear after a nearly 40 years of firefighting.

Lynn's career began as a volunteer with the old Medonte Township fire department.

The Fire Service is having a party for the popular retiring chief on Thursday.

The 62-year old married father of four and grandfather of three previously told Barrietoday that he's ready.

The decision regarding the new Director of Emergency Services will go first to City Council tonight.

The motion that General Committee and Council will be considering is to authorize an offer to an individual based on specific parameters.

Should Council approve the motion, the individual would be provided the offer.

If they agree to the offer, then the City of Barrie would issue a press release tomorrow morning, according to LaMantia.
