Charges laid in crash that killed Toronto Paramedic and partner

OPP have laid charges in connection with an horrific crash near Haliburton that killed two motorcyclists in July.

It happened on Saturday, July 15  at 5:05 p.m. on Highway 118 between Trappers Trail and Essonville Line in Highlands East Township.

According to police, a Chrysler PT Cruiser was travelling eastbound when it crossed the center line and collided with four of seven motorcycles travelling west bound on Highway 118.

Two of the riders were killed and two others suffered life threatening injuries.

OPP identified the victims as 52-year-old George Eliadis and his partner, 42-year-old Shari Williams both from Uxbridge.

Eliadis was the deputy commander with Toronto Paramedic Services.

Police have now charged the driver of the PT Cruiser,  38-year-old Jamie Mountney, of Hastings Highlands with careless driving, driving without a license and driving without a validated permit.    

The accused, who sustained minor injuries in the collision, is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 2.
