Candid Collingwood cannonball shot really pops for soda maker

‘This photo turned out perfectly, so we submitted it and they liked it,’ Collingwood mom says of image that will adorn Jones Soda labels across Canada

A candid photo taken by a Collingwood family will be gracing the packaging of a famous soda brand.

Ashley Plewes’s photo of her son, Ben, jumping into a swimming pool on a warm summer day was recently selected to run on the label of the Jones Soda Co. Root Beer on bottles sold across Canada.

“I was so excited. I was floored. We’ve been submitting photos for the last couple of years. How often does something like this happen?” Plewes said.

The photo shows eight-year-old son, Ben, doing a cannonball into his grandfather’s swimming pool.

“This photo turned out perfectly, so we submitted it and they liked it,” said Plewes.

This marks the second time a photo submitted by the Collingwood mom has been selected by the company. About 11 years ago, an engagement photo she submitted of herself and a past boyfriend was also selected and graced the packaging, although she never saw a bottle with her photo on it in person.

Since then, Plewes has made it a regular habit to submit photos over the years of her kids and family in the hopes that they may get selected.

“You don’t have to be a professional to submit photos. It’s super easy,” she said.

The family will now be keeping an eye out for bottles with their picture, and will continue to snap shots of their life in hopes they may be selected again.

“I love photography. I submit my kids’ pictures in all kinds of contests,” said Plewes. “(My son) thinks it’s cool, but I think I’m more excited about it than he is.”

“The bottle is distributed all over Canada. We just found out last week, so we’re going to start keeping our eyes open,” she said.
