A group of skilled volunteers in framing, carpentry, roofing and siding who are owners or work for home builders from around Ontario, are heading south to a small village in Puerto Rico to help rebuilding efforts from one of the worst hurricanes in the Island’s history. Hurricane Maria has left destruction throughout the island with it’s victims and communities in dire circumstances. It is estimated that the area will not receive a reliable electrical and fresh water supply for more than a year.

They will be travelling to San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. Colleagues from the Ontario building industry, are organizing under the name Hope Agua Vita. Their mission statement is: “Dedicated to creating safer more sustainable communities, by helping build more hurricane resistant homes, by working to bring safe drinking water and durable solar energy micro grids.”

From Jan. 27 to Feb. 3 2018, the 14 - 20 member group from Canada (Hope Agua Vita), primarily organized by Doug Tarry of Doug Tarry Homes, will help rebuild the roof of the local school in San Lorenzo and re-establish the classrooms, while working with local tradesmen to teach more hurricane resistant construction. Later in April, a larger contingent of volunteers will be travelling down again to continue repairing the roofs of four to six homes, assist with mold remediation and work with local trades people to share this construction knowledge.

“We are proud to be able to help out in this mission. With our experience working in the Dominican Republic, we feel we can bring our skills and knowledge to the citizens of Puerto Rico and do what we can to help alleviate their circumstances," said James Bazely, president of Gregor Homes Inc.

The group is looking for corporate as well as individual sponsorships to help cover the costs of building supplies, tools, travel and accommodation for the volunteer crew. For corporate sponsorships contact Doug Tarry at Doug Tarry Homes, doug.tarry@dougtarryhomes.com, 519-673-7088.

For individual sponsorships, contact Gail Bazely at Gregor Homes, gail@gregorhomes.com, 705-721-3354
