Poor weather conditions, including freezing rain, have prompted Canada Post to suspend delivery in the Barrie area Tuesday.

Canada Post has issued a “red delivery service alert” for areas of central Ontario, including Barrie, Beaverton, Brechin, Collingwood, Innisfil, Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Washago and Wasaga Beach. due to inclement weather and freezing rain.

“A red service alert means that we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out or recalling them,” a news release stated. “Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so. The safety of our employees is our No. 1 priority.”

Information about service alerts for Tuesday will be posted to the delivery service alerts web page.

Canada Post asks customers to clear ice from walkways, stairs and driveways “to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors as well as their mail carriers when service resumes.”

Anyone with questions about mail delivery can contact customer service at canadapost.ca/support or by calling 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).
