Calling all classic car enthusiasts

Last chance to Show and Shine as wintry weather approaches

The Innisfil Beach Cruisers Car Club wraps up the season with its grand finale car show, which serves as a fundraiser for both the Rotary Club of Innisfil and the Innisfil Food Bank.

This year, the season finale will take place this Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Toronto North Cookstown KOA Campground in Innisfil located at Highway 89 and Highway 400, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rain date is Sept. 22.

Show vehicle admission is $5. Spectator admission is free, although donations of cash or non-perishable food items for the food bank are welcomed. The event will include vendors, food, live music with Elvis tribute artist Terry Chisholm, and trophies for the top vehicle entries. Barrie town crier Steve Travers will open the show.

There will also be a special guest: visitors are invited to meet Batman and the Batmobile.

Last year saw more than 400 vintage, classic and custom cars, trucks and bikes entered in the show, said Rotarian Barry Rutledge – and the event raised $2,500 for the Rotary Club and its projects.

Rutledge noted that the Innisfil Beach Cruisers Car Club also raises money for Champions Park in Innisfil, a handicapped-accessible park.

“They do a lot of charity work in the community,” he said.

Back Alley Cruisers Car Club of Bradford hosts its annual Pre-Snow Show at the Georgian Bay Steam Show grounds in Cookstown, on Victoria St. West, on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is a donation of cash or non-perishable food for the Helping Hand Food Bank in Bradford. Come out for classic and antique cars and trucks, motorcycles, muscle cars, rat rods and street rods, at the annual show and shine – plus music provided by a DJ, barbecue, bake sale, draws and games.

Club president Gord Houston will once again be wearing his Bermuda shorts, whatever the weather – his lucky charm to fend off the snow, until after the car show.  Sometimes it even works…
