Roll up your sleeves and pick up a hammer.

The Barrie Women in Construction group, in partnership with CCpartners, is offering two $500 bursaries to female students entering post-secondary education in the 2020-21 year with a focus on trades.

“We’re trying to promote construction and trades for women,” said Valentina DiGrado, member of the Barrie Women in Construction Group. “The bursaries serve as an opportunity for women to see there is potential in the trades, and we’re willing to help them get there.”

The bursaries are only available to residents of Simcoe County.

Interested applicants are asked to submit a short essay about themselves, outlining which career path they have chosen and why, and why women in trades are important, along with personal contact information. Proof of acceptance to a trades program for the 2020-21 school year is also required.

“Business is booming. There are a lot of jobs in the construction industry. Many are not aware that it’s a good industry for women, and there is room for them in that industry,” said DiGrado.

Deadline for submissions has been extended to June 30.

Essays can be submitted via email to [email protected].

The recipient will be chosen by group members and the bursary will be presented to the winner in July.
