BSC, Rovers hosting goalkeeper clinic for players of all ages

Canadian goalkeeper David Monsalve, who played for Toronto FC, will be passing on his skills at local clinics

On the heels of a dramatic final at the Euro Cup, interest in the beautiful game is soaring.

The Barrie Soccer Club (BSC) and the newly formed Simcoe County Rovers are jointly holding a goalkeeper clinic for players of all ages, genders and skill levels.

Canadian goalkeeper David Monsalve is an established player who has played for Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, FC Edmonton of the North American Soccer League, the Vaughan Azzurri in League 1, many teams across the world and last played for Guatemalan club, Xelajú MC.

He also played for Canada’s national team at different levels from 2004 to 2010.

The high-performance goalkeeper clinic is $40 each and has three different dates and locations.

The clinics take place on July 26 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the BSC ground at 7 Currie Dr. in Midhurst, on Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at 207321 Highway 9 in Mono and in Aurora at 75 Mary St. on a date to be determined.

The BSC has been providing the city’s players with education and skill-building for 53 years. There are several teams at skill levels at both the house league and rep divisions.

The Simcoe County Rovers entered into an affiliation agreement with the BSC and on July 6 announced they were the newest member of the Huronia District Soccer Association (HDSA).

The Rovers FC group will consist of President Julian De Guzman, CEO Peter Raco, and BSC President Will Devellis will act as COO of the organization.

There will be up to four current high profile men’s national team players joining as investors and advisors announced later this year.

The affiliation between the BSC and Rovers FC also includes two other youth clubs - Aurora Soccer Club and Athletic Institute Academy.

The short-term goal of the Rovers FC is to achieve senior team status for both men and women at the highest level possible in Ontario starting in 2022, with the BSC also operating teams under their banner as an affiliate.
