NEWS RELEASE
BARRIE-INNISFIL MP JOHN BRASSARD
*************************
This high school graduation season, John Brassard, Member of Parliament for Barrie-Innisfil, will once again be awarding a student from each of seven local high schools with a Politics and Civics scholarship.

Ten years ago, MP Brassard began to personally fund the scholarship at Bear Creek Secondary School when he was a city councillor in Barrie (Ward 7). He continued the award after he was elected in 2015 as the Member of Parliament for Barrie-Innisfil expanding the award to each secondary school in the riding to a student pursuing university studies in Political Science, Canadian History, Law or Civics.

"Liane and I are extremely pleased to assist students who are pursuing a path of public service at university by providing these scholarships. Having had two of our children graduate from university, we know that every little bit can help. It’s more than that however, we want to encourage young Canadians to be engaged in the political process because of the profound impact that politics at every level can have on their lives. It’s a message I give when I speak in their classes and I feel compelled to support that message with these scholarships," Brassard said.

MP Brassard regularly visits area high schools to talk to with students about politics and the issues facing Canada and the world. Brassard will be providing commencement addresses to Nantyr Shores in Innisfil, Ecole Secondaire Romeo D’Allaire in Barrie on Thursday, and St. Peter’s Catholic High School on Friday.

“We have some bright young minds in Barrie-Innisfil and they always challenge me in our discussions. I am positive and hopeful that some of Canada’s next great leaders will come from our community of Barrie-Innisfil," Brassard concluded.
