A Bradford man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon in a workplace attack that took place last Wednesday.

Mothy Chheng, 27, has been charged in the incident that took place at Flex-N-Gate in Bradford West Gwillimbury, a company that makes automotive parts.

An employee of the company has indicated that both the victim and the accused were employees at Flex-N-Gate.

“We don’t have a comment at this time. It’s still under investigation,” said a company human resources representative, when contacted by BradfordToday on Friday.

The South Simcoe Police Service was called to the Reagens Industrial Parkway factory on Wednesday, July 4 around 9:30 p.m. for a report of a possible industrial accident.

The victim, identified in court documents as Khamphouviene Sourapha, was treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken to a Toronto trauma centre, where she was listed as being in critical condition following surgery.

As of July 10, she was in critical but stable condition, according to Sue Sgambati, corporate communications co-ordinator for the South Simcoe Police Service.

Chheng was arrested early Thursday morning, according to police.

Police also said a motive is not yet known for the attack.

Chheng is scheduled to be back in court July 10.
