A Barrie firefighter was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with a minor injury after a fire at a Yonge Street medical building Monday night.

A customer called firefighters from the main floor pharmacy at 505 Yonge Street at about 7:00 p.m. At that time, flames were shooting out of the window of a dentist's office located on the 2nd floor.

The pharmacy was quickly evacuated and the upstairs offices, including the dental office, were closed at the time of the fire, said Samantha Hoffmann, Public Fire and Life Safety Officer at Barrie Fire and Emergency Service

Five fire trucks were dispatched, along with a safety officer and platoon chief.

The blaze was contained to the second floor dental office, Hoffman said.
Second floor was not occupied at the time of the call.

While a damage estimate is not yet known, Hoffmann said the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) has been notified "due to a suspected high dollar loss."

A Barrie Fire investigator has been called in to determine cause.‎
