BRADFORD — A Bradford woman is out three thousand dollars after falling prey to a on-line scam.

The woman was searching to buy a vehicle when she sent an email to an ad from autotrader.ca.

During the ensuing discussion, she was told that the deal would be completed through eBay.

When she received an email from eBay, she followed the instruction, making two deposits at a Bitcoin machine in Richmond Hill.

After further requests for money, and no sign of the vehicle, she complained to eBay, who informed her that she had been scammed by someone using their logo, and that they do not use Bitcoin in their transactions.

In this case, as we have seen previously, the fraudster used the reputation of a legitimate business to gain the confidence of the victim.

Use caution when purchasing anything on-line.

Always meet the seller face to face in a safe location, and make sure the deal is legitimate before parting with any money.
