The Georgian College athletic department is thrilled to welcome Chad Bewley as the Grizzlies new men’s basketball Head Coach.

Bewley brings a wealth of basketball experience in coaching, player development and as a former player.

Most recently, Bewley served as a Development Coach with Basketball Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team. He has also been a head trainer and coach at a number of youth basketball academies and clubs while also serving as an assistant coach with both the Humber Hawks (2017-2020) and York Lions (2012-13) men’s basketball programs.

As a player, Bewley was a member of the Humber Hawks CCAA National Championship team in 2015 and also played with the York Lions in the CIS (now U Sports). While being a student-athlete he earned a BA in Philosophy from York University and a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion at Humber College. Following his collegiate career, he went on to play professional basketball in Australia, China, El Salvador and Spain.

Joining the Grizzlies at this time is something coach Bewley envisions as an incredible opportunity.

“Georgian is in a really unique situation, especially in this current time, it’s a fresh opportunity to grow with the program and I’m really excited about that,” said Bewley. “I have a number of connections to the Georgian community and I can’t wait to get started.”

Georgian College’s Manager of Athletics, David Laliberte is excited about what the future will bring Bewley and the Grizzlies.

“We are very excited to welcome Chad to our men’s basketball varsity program,” said Laliberte. “He brings to the program a strong foundation of leadership skills, organization and a very high basketball IQ.

“He will definitely contribute to our commitment to excellence in sports for years to come.”

The Georgian Grizzlies along with the entire Ontario Colleges Athletic Association are working hard on a return-to-play model for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Stay tuned for updates on season details, schedules and tryouts in the coming months.
