A man wanted by Toronto Police for allegedly posing as a fire inspector has been spotted in Springwater Township.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service is warning the public to have an eye for 56-year-old Brian Banting.

"No stranger to our community and formerly convicted of the same offence, Brian Banting was recently in Springwater," Barrie Fire tweeted on Tuesday.

"Springwater is aware of this incident and is currently working with the OPP to investigate," Springwater Fire said on its twitter account this morning. "Additional details will follow."

On Jan. 6, Toronto Police issued a news release to alert the public to an ongoing fraud investigation.

They alleged that between April 2016 and October 2016, a man, posing as a fire inspector, attended businesses in 11 Division.

Police say the man charged a fee to inspect fire equipment and issued fraudulent receipts in the name "TNT Fire" or "TNTFIRE+SAF"

Officers say that on Dec. 28, 2016, the same man again posed as a fire inspector and went to a business in 54 Division.

Brian Banting, 56, of Toronto, is wanted by numerous TPS Divisions.

Police say Banting is not licensed to inspect fire equipment and anyone who had equipment inspected by him should make sure it is functioning properly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
