Bear Creek Secondary all glammed up for Winter Ball

Special dance for Life Skills students

Bear Creek Secondary is rolling out the red carpet for its first Winter Ball for life skills students.

Staff and student volunteers have been transforming the school with Christmas lights and snowflakes in preparation for today's special event.

"The whole school looks like a winter wonderland. It's absolutely fantastic," said Bear Creek principal Michael Abram.  "These kids will be through the roof excited which is what it's all about."

More than 200 life skills students and staff from over 12 schools throughout Simcoe County will be dressed to the nines and ready to experience the glamour and fun of an event with their friends and peers.

"It'll be just like a prom or a graduation dance but the theme is a winter ball," said Abrams. "Everyone is very excited."

Abram says life skills students might not normally attend regular proms or dances and this is a chance for them to have that opportunity.

Students attending the Winter Ball will get ready for the event with the support of the Bear Creek Beauty Boutique.

"We just introduced cosmetology, aesthetics and hair styling to the school this year and there will be teachers and students helping students with hair, nails and makeup. It's a chance to go the spa before you head off to the prom. It is pretty cool."

During the Winter Ball students will be able to dance to music, enjoy food and drinks, and take photos in a photo booth.

The Bear Creek dance team will also be performing at the Ball.

Weather permitting, the Winter Ball takes takes place from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Bear Creek is located at 100 Red Oak Drive in Barrie.
