Be Green Show a free way for families to have fun keeping the city clean

'We really wanted to showcase not just ways to keep our city clean, but also the businesses making strides to do the same'

The Be Green Show takes over the Holly Community Centre for a family fun day of interaction and education on making the city a cleaner place.

Simcoe County’s largest green and healthy living show has over 100 vendors to answer questions and showcase items to the more than 2,000 people expected to walk through the doors on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event is put on by Barrie CARP, formerly Canadian Association of Retired Persons, and member Ingram Nurse told BarrieToday it's important to the organization to help out with these important social issues.

“We really wanted to showcase not just ways to keep our city clean, but also the businesses making strides to do the same,” said Nurse. “It is a wonderfully interactive experience for everyone.”

The event got underway with an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. and later includes a kids' eco-friendly fashion display, a session on climate reality, eco-tourism consultation and a nutrition and fitness session.

Nurse said the team has been working on the show since January and knows that this event will only grow after this year.

“We did one last year called Spring Into Green and we plan on doing these types of shows annually,” said Nurse. “We are trying to make it fun for families especially, but we’ll have hybrid cars for the adults to check out as well.”

Admission is free and all that is asked is for guests to bring a non-perishable food item.
