Georgian’s Food Locker program got a huge boost this week courtesy of a generous donation of $1,288 nd 2,576 pounds of food from BDO.

“We do a food drive every fall and contribute to a different charity each time,” says Giselle Bodkin, Partner, BDO Canada LLP. “This year we decided to donate to Georgian’s Food Locker program.”

Giselle, a member of Georgian’s Advancement Committee and founder of our WOMEN’S inTUITION campaign, heard about the program from President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes.

“Since we were already helping to ‘feed’ students’ minds, we thought it would be an appropriate gesture to help feed them – literally,” says Giselle.

BDO raised the money and donations through several fundraising events, including a 15k and 30k bike race, lottery tree, balloon pop (prizes hidden in random balloons), and a chili lunch and jeans day. One staff member even took the time to bake and sell 37 pies.

Avery Konda, VP Internal Relations, Georgian College Students’ Association and co-ordinator of the Food Locker program, says the donation will go a long way toward helping students this fall.

“We receive requests on a daily basis,” says Avery. “We’re helping over 40 students each week with the program.”
