Another tower proposed for downtown Barrie, this one at Bayfield and Sophia

Site currently includes the Ontario Works/College Boreal building, a law office, and a parking lot

Another tower proposal has come to city hall for a property in downtown Barrie, this one measuring 34 storeys tall.

The application is for land at the northwest corner of Bayfield and Sophia streets, including the addresses 112 and 136 Bayfield St., 113 and 115 Maple Ave., and 14 Sophia St. W.

The downtown site currently includes the Ontario Works/College Boreal building, a law office, and a parking lot.

The proposal is for a 34-storey, mixed-use condominium development with eight townhouse complexes containing 480 units. It would also include ground-floor commercial.

KLM Planning Partners is seeking a zoning-bylaw amendment from the city to switch the land from commercial to residential, as well as site-specific provisions.

A virtual neighbourhood meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11 beginning at 5 p.m.
