Baycats stay hot in win over Royals

The Barrie Baycats stayed hot with a 13-1 win over the Guelph Royals Thursday night at Coates Stadium. Frank Garces went six shutout innings on the mound, scattering two hits and striking out eight. He is 4-0 and has yet to allow a run in four starts.

Offensively, Kevin Atkinson went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Baycats, who have won eight of 10 and improved to 15-8.

Tim Smith singled four times and had three RBI and a run, Jordan Castaldo singled, doubled and drove in a run while scoring three times, Kyle DeGrace and Parker Walker each scored twice, Brandy Infante went 2-for-2 with a run, Jeff Cowan had a pair of hits and two RBI and a run, and Brandon Dhue and Glenn Jackson added an RBI apiece.

Ethan Mohan doubled and tripled for the Royals, who dropped to 7-15. Brendan Keys singled twice. Liam Hicks added an RBI double in the seventh.
Jorge de la Cruz (0-1) took the loss, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with four walks and four strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

The Baycats will host Burlington in their next action at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 8.
