Baycats get back in the win column with extra-innings victory

The Barrie Baycats walked off Welland, 8-7, in 11 innings Sunday evening.

Ryan Rijo went 3-for-6 with three RBI for Barrie (5-3). Jake Wilson had two hits, an RBI and a run, Royce Ando had two RBI and a run, while Noel McGarry-Doyle and Carson Burns each scored twice.

Brad Grieveson (3-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out four and walked one. Marshall Leishman started and went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Ethan Hunt led the Jackfish (7-2) with four hits and two runs. Tyler Dupuis went 2-for-6 with two RBI and a run, Gianfranco Morello drove in a run and scored twice, and Matteo Porcellato, Hogan Brown and Chris Tani all drove in a run.

Chris Boatto (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out six.

Leafs walk off Royals in 11th inning

TORONTO – After coughing up a two-run lead, the Toronto Maple Leafs battled back from their own deficit to hand the Guelph Royals a 4-3 loss in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Dan Marra went 2-for-4 in the win, driving in a run and scoring once. Luca Boscarino also had an RBI.

Adam Marra (1-1) earned the win in relief, striking out one in a scoreless 11th. Diego Dominguez started and went three no-hit innings, striking out a pair of Royals.

Gueph’s Conner Morro went 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base. Darius Barlas was credited with the other RBI. Brando Leroux scored twice.

Royals starter Claudio Custodio went eight innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts.

Nelson Mercado gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits over two innings to take the loss. He walked one and struck out two.

Toronto led 2-0 early before Guelph scored once in the fifth and tied the game in the eighth. The Royals took their first lead in the 10th, but the Leafs responded with a run to set up the 11th-inning dramatics.

Toronto moved to 3-5, and Guelph fell to 4-4.

Majors’ bats come alive late against Cards

HAMILTON – London’s offence came alive late in a 12-5 win Sunday in Hamilton.

Daniel Perrier had two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the sixth to drive in three as the Majors’ built a comfortable lead they wouldn’t relinquish. London (6-1) added five runs in the seventh.

Cleveland Brownlee went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs, Starling Joseph had three hits, two RBI and scored three times, Andrew Lawrence drove in a pair, Taylor Wright had two hits, three runs and an RBI and Chris McQueen drove in a run.

Owen Boon struck out 10 over 5.2 innings for the win. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with four walks.

For Hamilton (2-4), Justin Gideon and Jeremie Veilleux each had an RBI. Anthony Buonaiuto had two hits and a run and Luis Jean scored twice.

Owen MacNeil took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits in 1.2 innings. He walked five and struck out one in relief of starter Chris Lazar, who struck out one and gave up a hit in one inning.

Panthers batter Red Sox

BRANTFORD – Kitchener improved to 3-4 after a 15-6 win in Brantford Sunday afternoon.

Blake Jacklin, Evyn Sherman, Keegan Marsden, Dreyden Sloat and Tyler Hinrikus had big games at the plate. Jacob Douglas started on the mound and earned the win.

Gabe Bruder took the loss for the Red Sox (0-7).
