Barrie's own bucket list champion Frank Nelson is a top ten finalist in the Post Foods Search for Goodness contest.

The contest is a nation-wide hunt for Canadians who "embody genuine goodness and deserve to be recognized for their selfless commitment," according to the company.

"The Search for Goodness is an opportunity to celebrate people doing good in our communities," a Post Foods news release stated. "Post believes there's genuine goodness in every Canadian and that's something worth celebrating."

It's the fourth annual Search for Goodness but it's the first time the winner will receive $10,000 to "help them continue to spread goodness within their community."

Nelson wrote on his Facebook page that if he wins he'll use the money for his two main bucket list items - his "Paying It Back" campaign to give $1,000 each to strangers in need and his free goods community shop.

Nelson vowed to help others after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2014.

"If we are fortunate enough to win the $10,000 prize, 2 families in need will each receive $1,000 and $8,000 will go towards our goal to raise $40,000 this year for The Community Give and Get Program," Nelson said.

The contest received more than 460 nominations and 232,920 votes, according to Sarah Fournier, media contact for the company.

Nelson was nominated by local artist Victoria Potter.

His story on the Post Foods Canada web site highlights his selfless deeds and mission to make a difference.

"He stands right up there with all the heroes in the world," the submission reads. "He believes laughter is the best medicine and to make a difference in the world."

Voting is closed and the judging panel will select the winning story soon.
