Barrie students think pink to promote anti-bullying

International Day of Pink celebrated by all ages

Students and staff at Hillcrest Public School got their pink on for International Day of Pink.

The anti-bullying campaign is marked on the second Wednesday of April as an annual reminder that bullying has no place in society.

The initiative stems from a 2007 event, when two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by defending a younger student who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt.

Like many schools in Simcoe County, everyone at Hillcrest wore pink and intermediate students did a pink scavenger hunt downtown.

Schools commemorated the day in a variety of ways including marches and making signs with anti-bullying messages.
