Police arrested a man in Bradford West Gwillimbury on Thursday in relation to a Barrie shooting.

The two- to four-hour manhunt around the town led to a hold and secure at Chris Hadfield Public School, St. Angela Merici Catholic School, and W.H. Day Elementary School, which were all lifted after the man’s arrest around 3 p.m.

“We had a shooting in Barrie on Sunday. The investigation led us to an address in Bradford,” said Barrie police Const. Sarah Bamford. “We located the vehicle involved in the shooting (at an address on) Romanelli Crescent.”

The suspect does not live there, she said, but when police approached him, he fled on foot.

He was arrested without incident at a home on Faris Street, which police believe he broke into, she said.

The name of the man, who is in his 20s, as well as his exact charges and where he lives have not yet been released.

Police are still looking for two more suspects in the June 3 shooting at an apartment complex at 90 Edgehill Dr. in Barrie.

Before police arrived to that scene, all people involved fled the area in a vehicle.

Police were called to a local hospital at 6:45 p.m. that day after a man arrived with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Barrie, South Simcoe and York Region police officers assisted in Thursday’s search. This includes a tactical unit and K9 team from Barrie and a York Region helicopter.

Bamford said the hold and secures were put in place at the three schools as a precaution because the search was carried out near them.

A hold and secure means the building’s doors are locked, so no one can enter or exit, but activities continue inside.

Residents were urged to stay inside while police activity was ongoing, and students and staff at both schools were safe throughout the incident, according to police.

A polling station at Chris Hadfield Public School was closed during the hold and secure, and a law enforcement torch run there in support of Special Olympics was done indoors.
