Barrie Police investigate shooting (update)

Barrie man injured in 'targeted' gunfire

Barrie Police have seized a vehicle believed to be associated to a suspect in a Sunday morning shooting on Mulcaster Street and Lakeshore Drive.

The vehicle was seized at an address on Toronto Street, according to police.

Police were called to Mulcaster Street and Lakeshore Drive at 1:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived they found a 28-year-old Barrie man suffering from serious injuries.

Investigators believe the suspect shot the victim in the middle of Mulcaster Street and then fled in a vehicle.

Police have not commented on how many shots were fired or what sparked the shooting.

The victim was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and later airlifted to a GTA hospital.

"The victim remains in serious condition. We believe it was targeted and that the victim and suspect were known to each other," said Barrie Police Const. Sarah Bamford.

"Investigators are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the incident that have not spoken to police or anyone that may have been in the area to please come forward," said Bamford.

A large section of the area around Mulcaster and Dunlop Street was cordoned off with yellow tape as police searched for evidence and processed the scene.

A forensic identification officer placed a yellow marker on some items on the median on Mulcaster.

There have been no arrests.
