Barrie Firefighters respond to ice rescue call

Turns out no rescue required

Barrie Firefighters and Barrie Police were called to Centennial Beach Thursday evening for a report of an angler through the ice.

"We had a runner going by that saw someone on the ice and thought they were in distress so we sent a crew out to check with the person that's actually just fishing out there," said Fire Captain Kevin White.

A rescue team of four firefighters -  two are first rescue team and the other two are backup  - donned flotation suits and using flashlights ventured out in the darkness off Centennial Beach to investigate.

The angler was fine and continued ice fishing.

Firefighters had the rapid deployment device standing by on shore in case it was needed.
