Adam Chapnick had his licence revoked by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) on April 26.

A dentist who had an office in south-end Barrie is no longer allowed to practise in Ontario after being found guilty of several offences.

Adam Chapnick had his licence revoked by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) on April 26.

A discipline hearing was held that same day and the disciplinary committee made an order directing the registrar of the college to immediately revoke Chapnick’s certificate of registration and issue a reprimand.

Chapnick was found guilty of seven allegations listed on the RCDSO website:

  • Sexual abuse of a patient.
  • Prescribed, dispensed or sold a drug for an improper purpose, or inappropriately used authority to prescribe.
  • Recommended or provided an unnecessary dental service.
  • Contravened a standard of practice or failed to maintain the standards of practice of the profession.
  • Contravened the standards of practice in relation to inducing general anesthesia or conscious sedation.
  • Disgraceful, dishonourable, unprofessional, or unethical conduct.
  • Failed to keep records as required by the regulations.

Along with having his certificate revoked last month, Chapnick was also ordered to pay $10,000 in costs to the college.

RCDSO communication director Lesley Byrne told BarrieToday "there were two separate investigations that were held together as one."

“As of April 26, 2023, Dr. Chapnick is no longer a registrant of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. He cannot practise dentistry in Ontario,” Byrne said. “The college is not aware of Dr. Chapnick practising in any other location outside Ontario.”

Chapnick had a practice in Toronto and also in Barrie. His Facebook bio states he's the former owner of Molson Park Dental on Mapleview Drive West.

BarrieToday contacted the south-end practice on Tuesday and a representative said Chapnick sold the practice to the current owners in 2021.

"Dr. Chapnick is no longer working here," a representative said.

The RCDSO page containing his disciplinary information says his initial date of registration for his dental licence was Aug. 5, 1997.

The college's report also states Chapnick did not appeal the decision handed down by the regulatory body.

A full report on the panel's decision is expected in the coming weeks, Bryne said.

Chapnick’s website bio says he grew up in a family of more than 13 dentists going as far back as his great uncles and grandfather. It also states that Chapnick splits residence between Barrie and Toronto.
